The fifth ordinary meeting of the TROPOS Project, took place in Madrid (Spain) at the premises of the Polytechnic University of Madrid from 2nd to 4th December, 2013. This meeting, held under the coordination of PLOCAN, was attended by more than 40 researchers of the TROPOS Consortium from both the European Union and Taiwan, as well as 3 stakeholders coming from several companies and universities of the sector.

This innovative and competitive European Project has achieved its initial objective of the design of the components of oceanic platforms combining activity sectors such as transport, energy, aquaculture and leisure with the aim of strengthening and optimizing use of the maritime space following the strategic view of the concepts of “Blue Economy” launched by the European Commission. At the moment the integration of the components is being developed in order to present three viable platform models from a technical, economic and environmental point of view.

This meeting has shown the main results achieved by the project after completing almost two years out of a total of three. In particular, the characterization of the designed platforms has been introduced, including three use cases focused on the industrial component of the project, in the exploitation of the aquaculture, and a sustainable and innovative leisure approach, this last one under the coordination of PLOCAN. Each use case will integrate one central unit and different modules with specific components related to the applications.
